Hello everyone. I am pleased to launch a new look and fresh purpose for the website. It’s still a work in progress, so please be patient. That’s what I keep telling myself, too.

What started off as a genealogy-specific blog has morphed into my own little place on the Internet. And I am totally fine with that.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but I miss the early days of the Internet – long before social media dominated – when we had personal websites (remember Geocities?) so I am trying to recapture that moment in time here.

Of course, I will continue to use this site to share my genealogy work, but I will also include other interests of mine such as local history and the monarchy. And who knows what else in the future.

In the meantime, have a look around and let me know what you think.

Just a heads up that I am in the process of migrating this blog over to a new host. Be patient (that’s what I keep telling myself, too) as I slowly rebuild the website.

Greetings from Dunnville, Ontario, Canada. My name is Robert Finch. Most family members, though, call me Bobby. Friends call me Bob.

I live on a hobby horse farm with my wife and daughter here in Dunnville, a part of Haldimand County, where the Grand River empties into Lake Erie. But, I’m not from here. I was born in Burlington, Ontario and raised on the Beach Strip in neighbouring Hamilton. So, while I live near Lake Erie now I grew up literally on the shores of Lake Ontario. My parents and brother and sister still live there.

Genealogy has been an off and on interest for me for years. Two of my favourite subjects were history and geography, so it’s not surprising I’d be into genealogy. I love learning about my family history and the places they called home.

I’ve created this blog for a few reasons: to tell the stories of our ancestors; to share my research with others; to connect and collaborate with family members and other genealogists; and just to have a little fun.

So, welcome. Hope you get something out of visiting and check back often. By all means, if you have something to contribute (a picture, an old document, a story, etc.) definitely let me know. I’d love to see it and share it with others.
